The China Association of Automobile Manufacturers defines China's automobile market status this years as a "low operating stage". However, the automobile industry is soaring and prosperous in Jimo District.

From January to November, the output value of the automobile industry in Automobile Industry New City reached RMB 61.1 billion, and is expected to reach RMB 80 billion throughout the year. The output of FAW Jiefang was 174,000 sets from January to November, with a YoY growth by 23.4%; the output value was RMB 34.1 billion, with a YoY growth by 37.4%; the profits and taxes were RMB 1.21 billion, with a YoY growth by 47.8%. FAW-Volkswagen Qingdao has an output of 250,000 vehicles and an output value of RMB 22 billion.

Behind the upward trend is active action and initiative of Jimo District. The automobile industry is one of ten industrial 100 billion industrial chains that Qingdao is striving to build. Jimo District, which owns Qingdao Automobile Industry New City, resolutely shoulders this "100 billion level" task, implements the "high-end manufacturing+artificial intelligence" offensive deployment of the Municipal Party Committee, focuses on head enterprises, builds, supplements, extends and strengthens the chains, and strives to create a 100 billion-level automobile industry base.

On December 20, Jimo Automobile Industry added another “big project”. Chery New Energy and Jimo District signed a contract concerning strategic cooperation in Ji'nan, which is also an action of Jimo District to help Qingdao to build a full-chain development pattern of automobiles and create the world's largest new energy automobile industry base.

The head automobile enterprises "play the leading role"

Qingdao Automobile Industry New City, with a total planned area of 93 square kilometers, is located at the north of Jimo District. It has accumulatively introduced three vehicle enterprises, i.e., FAW-Volkswagen (Qingdao) East China Production Base, FAW Jiefang Commercial Vehicle Base and FAW Jiefang New Energy Commercial Vehicle as well as over 400 upstream and downstream enterprises. The products cover passenger vehicles, commercial vehicles, modified vehicles and various auto parts, and the complete automobile industry chain and the advanced automobile industry ecosystem are established. It is the only professional functional area for development of the automobile and parts industry in Qingdao, focusing on R&D, manufacturing and sales of vehicles and parts.

On the fertile soil of the automobile industry that has been developing for ten years, it is clear that the entire industrial chain is gathering and growing here - 3 head vehicle enterprises, i.e., FAW-Volkswagen (Qingdao) East China Production Base, FAW Jiefang Commercial Vehicle Base and FAW Jiefang New Energy Commercial Vehicle, have propped up "most of the sky". Four special vehicle enterprises, i.e., Hailong, Haiyu, Qingte and Jiuhe Heavy Industry, are constantly expanding the entire automobile industry pattern On this basis, Jimo District uses the vehicle project to create a "project magnetic field". A group of highly competitive auto parts supporting enterprises are growing and maturing through special education, thus improving the upstream and downstream chains of the vehicle manufacturing industry and accumulating new kinetic energy for development.

At present, more than 130 related auto parts enterprises have successively settled in Qingdao Automobile Industry New City, involving a total investment of RMB 72 billion. The products cover passenger vehicles, commercial vehicles, modified vehicles and various auto parts. Settlement of these batches of core parts enterprises has also helped the automobile industry chain achieve a full chain and fission-like development.

Occupy the new energy "outlet"

Nowadays, Qingdao Automobile Industry New City is aiming at new energy vehicles and new materials, as well as electronic control, motors and other core auto parts as the key development direction, which lays a solid foundation for realization of a 100 billion industrial chain.

New Energy Industry Department is established in Qingdao Automobile Industry New City, and the special team is set up for target investment to attract large projects accurately, and the "project library" of accelerate investment in parts projects.

On December 7, 2017, FAW Jiefang New Energy Base located in Automobile Industry New City was officially put into production, and the first Jimo-made new energy truck was off the assembly line, marking that FAW Jiefang, the largest domestic commercial vehicle manufacturer, officially enters the new energy field. On October 29 this year, when the 300,000th vehicle of FAW-Volkswagen East China Base was off the assembly line, Bora Pure Electric was launched, which was the first pure electric product put in the market by FAW-Volkswagen. At present, Jimo District has gathered 51 new energy vehicle supporting parts enterprises.

This year, a professional investment company led by 5 state-owned enterprises was established, and 10 modern industry investment development offices and 16 professional investment promotion departments are arranged in Jimo District to accurately attract investment. Among them, the automobile industry investment promotion department is one of the "comparative advantages" of Jimo to promote automobile industry cluster and chain development.

"From project docking to start of production, we continue to follow up. When inviting projects, we implement the ‘one matter, one discussion’ work method for major projects; after the project is implemented, we provide one-stop agency service for enterprises to maximize time and save costs." Xu Wenqiang, head of the automobile industry investment promotion department, told reporters.

The unique and convenient automobile logistics advantage that Jimo is committed to building is another "comparative advantage" of Jimo to realize automobile industry cluster and chain development. Driven by radiation of Shanghai Cooperation Demonstration Zone, Jimo has expanded cooperation in the fields of international logistics, modern trade, two-way investment, business travel and cultural exchange through the new platform for international cooperation under the “Belt and Road” initiative. With Qingdao Automobile Industry New City as the center, a "40-minute automobile logistics circle" was created.
